Our ISA program hosted 20 Spanish exchange students and two teachers from IES Julio Verne in Bargas, Spain in January 2017. Visiting students lived with Napa High host families for ten days as part of our first ISA cultural exchange. Our students and staff were able to build connections and create friendships that will last a lifetime. We are excited about developing a sister school relationship that will strengthen and grow over the years.
Napa High plans to send students from our ISA program to Spain over the Thanksgiving break to reconnect with our Spanish friends and cement a lasting partnership with IES Julio Verne. It is our hope that this relationship will become a lasting feature of our program.
Visting NVLA: As part of the visit, our Spanish guests and NHS students visited the nexus of our ISA program, the Napa Valley Language Academy (NVLA). These Spanish ambassadors and NVLA alumni spent a morning in classrooms promoting cross cultural connections. A special thanks to NVLA for hosting us. Our ISA program would not be here today were it not for their work.
Honors Spanish for Spanish Speakers 3
Napa High will be offering Honors Spanish for Spanish Speakers 3 next school year. This new course will allow our ISA students an additional year of Spanish language support before starting the Advanced Placement (AP) Spanish sequence with AP Spanish Language in the junior year and AP Spanish Literature in the senior year. Students who have the language ability to successfully take the AP Spanish sequence will still be allowed to do so in their 10th grade year. This addition is designed to prepare students for the rigors of AP.
